WHEN ONLY GOD IS LEFT
I traveled a long road to get here
Through the fog and through the snow
The hillsides, they all crumbled
The roots too weak to hold
I braced against the anchor
That sank inside my chest
The land, it turned to water
And there was nothing left
Something ancient spoke to me
It moved inside my blood
The depth of the ocean canyons
The heat of a thousand suns
I dug through the mud to get here
From somewhere deep in the earth
The underworld, it opened
And stole away my breath
My soul, it ached, my body hurt
So much buried 'neath the earth
My ears roared with the thunder
That drowning souls will know
Salt water coarses through the dirt
I am falling through the earth
The land has turned to water
And only God is left
The sky was never empty
It's always been alive
The Hopi had a prophecy
The return of the original light
Maybe the world's always ending
And we're just riding the wave
Crashing through the darkness
The soft earth giving way
Our lungs, they fill with water
As the next wave starts to crest
Unable to sever the anchor
Until only God is left
To find peace in the darkness
To claw our way out through the dirt
To find the strength to surrender
The courage to let it hurt.
